Granfalloon Festival Main Stage concert is moving indoors due to inclement weather.

Our team is disappointed to announce that the Granfalloon Festival Main Stage concert is moving indoors due to inclement weather. The concert will now take place inside the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecasted during our scheduled Main Stage concert. Unfortunately, given all the moving parts, we had to make this decision today.

While we are fortunate to have an alternative venue, the audience capacity will reduce upon moving indoors.

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater has a seating capacity of ~500 that will be first come, first served. Once capacity is reached, we will operate on a one-in, one-out policy.
For folks joining us, please plan accordingly!

Whether you're a first time fest-goer or a seasoned Granfalloon veteran, this page will help you prepare for all the granfalloonery that is in store!

If you’re planning a trip to beautiful Bloomington, Indiana, for the festival, check out Visit Bloomington for a list of great places to visit, eat, and soak in the culture of Indiana's coolest city!

Please note, this festival is free and open to the public. There are no tickets for the main stage festival performance.

Getting Around Granfalloon

There are four primary modes of transportation in Bloomington— walking, driving, biking and bus services! During Granfalloon, walking and biking will be your best options.

Granfalloon is conveniently located in the heart of Bloomington and was intended to be a very walkable festival. The festival itself runs from Kirkwood and Indiana (Sample Gates) to Kirkwood and Walnut (Uptown Cafe), with easy access to the Bloomington Handmade Market just off of Kirkwood near The Graduate Hotel. Bloomington is the biking capital of Indiana (according to us..!) and Granfalloon is a festival that fully embraces that. The City of Bloomington works to develop a connected network of safe and convenient facilities that enable people of all ages and mobilities to walk or bike to their destinations!

There will be multiple bike racks stationed on Kirkwood Ave. for bikers to park and enjoy the festival! For a comprehensive and interactive bike map, check out the Visit Bloomington website.

While Bloomington is a car-friendly city, it may be hard to navigate during Granfalloon weekend due to the ‘granfalloonery’ occurring on Kirkwood and the foot-traffic at the Bloomington Handmade Market.

Parking

For easy access to the festival, you’ll want to park on the streets near Kirkwood Avenue– avoid high traffic areas like Grant or Lincoln as those will be occupied by floods of festival guests during the day. Most of the parking spaces in Bloomington use ParkMobile for payment, download the app here to prepare for your visit! There is free parking in the Indiana University employee parking lots on weekends but beware…there is limited space!

The 4th St. Parking Garage is also located a short walk from the festival happenings! More information about the 4th St. Garage here.

Campus Bus Service

The IU campus bus is a bus service that spans throughout campus using various routes. No IDs, passes or fares are required to ride. The closest bus stop to the Granfalloon Festival is the Sample Gates stop located on Kirkwood & Indiana. It can be accessed using the CM, E or F bus routes. See bus route map here.

Bloomington Transit

The city of Bloomington also has a bus service that you can utilize for a small fee. Fare information and passes can be purchased here. All Bloomington transit route maps can be found here.

General Festival Guidelines

Festival gates will open at 3:00pm, the concert begins at 4pm and will end by 10pm!

The stretches of sidewalk on both the north and south sides of Kirkwood Ave that run from the Pit Area to Lincoln St will be pedestrian traffic only (no standing).

Chairs are allowed in the general festival area but should be used in non-crowded spaces toward the west side of the 200 block.

All alcohol must be purchased from the 5 vendors on the 200 block and consumed within the Festival Area (100-200 E Kirkwood, 100 N & S Washington)

Pit Guidlines

Pit Area access opens at 3pm.
Line cueing for the Pit Area access will begin in alleyway between First Christian Church and Habitat for Humanity, it will extend north toward 6th Street.

No tickets for pit access this year!

Access to Pit is first come, first served.
Security will check bags and ensure food/beverage and safety guidelines are followed.
Guests may not bring bags larger than 8.5’x11’, signs, noisemaking items, weapons, hard objects, chairs, or other items that will detract from the performance into the Pit Area.
Outside food/drink is not allowed into the Pit Area with the exception of plastic water bottles or drinks poured into plastic cups purchased at the event.
Lids should be taken off of water bottles (no projectiles)
Posters and items purchased at festival are permitted in the Pit Area
Festival restrooms are in the parking lot at 6th St and Lincoln St, located north of the Pit Area.

Accessibility Information

The Granfalloon Main Stage Concert and outdoor festival on June 7 takes place on Kirkwood Ave and as such all sidewalks have ramps to the road for those in need. Follow our Main Stage Concert signage for accessible seating options. Nearby indoor venues, including Graduate Bloomington, will be open during the day, 10am – 4pm, and are working to accommodate all guests. The outdoor show is dog-friendly (and we take so many photos of our doggo friends!) but we remind you, if you see a SERVICE animal, please do not approach, pet, or ask to pet these animals. They are here to work. If you need other accommodations made or have questions, please visit our Home Base tent on Kirkwood Ave. during the festival or email us at ahcounc@iu.edu.

If mobility challenges might prevent you, a friend or family member from fully enjoying Granfalloon, we encourage you to make use of free mobility device loans from our community partners, the Mobility Aids Lending Library and the Monroe County Public Library. The Mobility Aids Lending Library loans larger items such as manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and electric scooters from its location at First Christian Church at 205 E. Kirkwood Avenue (contact us in advance via the link above and we will meet you there). Smaller items like walkers, rollators, canes and crutches may be checked out through the Monroe County Public Library located at 303 E. Kirkwood Avenue. See hours here.

The Granfalloon festival is located in Bloomington's bustling restaurant scene-- Food trucks, restaurants and coffee shops are within steps of festival goers at all times! Festival Safety

We will have first aid available on Saturday, June 7th during the mainstage concert. A standby EMS station will be located on Kirkwood Ave. near main festival activites.

The Granfalloon Festival is seeking volunteers to support festivities on Saturday, June 7.

Presented by the IU Arts and Humanities Council and inspired by legendary Hoosier author Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Granfalloon brings together musicians, artists, thinkers, and good people from all walks of life for a celebration of art, ideas, and community. This year, the festival will in include performances by Mavis Staples, Murder by Death and Thee Sacred Souls.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, this year the festival is completely free! There are no tickets being sold for the June 7th concert.

Yes! Chairs are totally okay but please sit futher back to avoid view obstruction from folks standing.

Guests may not bring bags larger than 8.5’x11' into the pit.
